On Sunday night and tonight my college roommate Joe came up from a training seminar in San Jose to visit us. It was very, very nice to see my old friend. It always amazes me how relaxing and comforting it is to be around an old friend like Joe. We've both grown into so many of the same values over the last couple years - particularly the obsession with eating local, yummy, responsibly made food. He and Julie gave us a really cool monkey doll for the baby and a swaddling wrap that Paige had been wanting.
Paige got back on Wednesday. I had such a stressful weekend with what's going on at work and with the dog being sick. It was good to have my partner back. It isn't fun facing these things alone.
Last night was our first birth class. They showed a video, and it was the first time that I had ever seen a child being born. The video has boring music, a soothing speaker and almost no reason to connect with the mother - yet those twenty seconds of footage were extremely emotional. It seems like no matter how you package it, birth is an amazing event that pulls your heart whenever you see it.
Oh well, Paige seems happy to be home and is already building todo lists faster than anyone could cross them off.
It is good to face the chaos with her here.
