Golden child in Padre

When you've got the one baby among a large crowd of relatives, you are constantly the focus of attention. If Reid stumbles, three people reach to pick her up - none of them are her parents.
Reid participated in a borrowed Korean ritual of picking from a selection of objects to hint at her future. We had about a dozen things to choose from and she picked a mouse (for a technology/computer life/future) and then some books (for the life of a scholar). Real truth is she mostly worked the crowd and even went after some ceramic fish that were far from the table.
We made her an apple cake - which turned out okay. She didn't eat any of it. No face full of birthday cake for her.
Anyway, it's great weather, fun conversation, a nice Padre view and all-around good times. (Dad is in constant pain, but that is story hopefully forgotten.)
